Katharine Barr (1935 – 2014) was an artist and a very popular art teacher in the Uists.

The Arts Bursary which has been set up in Katharine’s memory will be awarded annually for four years. For the first three years it will be awarded to an artist. In the fourth year it will be awarded to a poet.

The first winner in 2016 was Margaret MacLellan.
In 2017 Peter Ferguson

The bursary is for £1000 and it will be awarded to an environmental artist working in the area of fine art.

Applicants must have been born or be resident in the Uists and Barra.

To apply for the bursary you will need to submit the following:

  •  A proposal on one side of an A4 sheet outlining how you would use the bursary to further your development as an artist.
  • Six images of your work.
  • Your CV.

The closing date for submissions is October 30th 2018
The name of the recipient will be announced on December 1st 2018
