Uist Art Courses

The University of the Highlands and Islands North West and Hebrides (UHI NWH) runs arts courses in Lochmaddy, North Uist. Based at the Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre, it offers 2 courses:

  • BA (Hons) Fine Art: The Degree course is offered online with residential workshops and optional studio space in Taigh Chearsabhagh. Full and part-time study options are possible, with learning in both theory and practical skills, leading to the development of a strong creative practice. You will be taught by a highly experienced team of visual practitioners, who will support you to explore and experiment with media and ideas within contemporary fine art contexts.
  • Art and Design (Creative Industries) SCQF 6 NC: this one-year course attracts a diverse group of learners locally and further afield, and is made up of younger students moving on from school as well as those returning to education. With small group sizes and the input of a number of specialised tutors, the learning experience is full of new challenges and creative opportunities

Some of the course modules can also be taken separately, for example:

  • Figure and Life Drawing:  join the full-time students for five afternoons of guided figure and life drawing at Taigh Chearsabhagh Art Studio. Explore short poses, longer sustained drawings and a range of media including charcoal, ink, pencil and paint. Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists. Runs over five afternoons in February/March 2026

Facilities include studio space,  print studio and photographic darkroom.
