Peter Rintoul
Paintings, Mixed Media
Some fifty years ago I fell in love with a girl from North Uist and then I fell in love with her island. I have been creating images of Uist ever since. My other love is the sea – watching it, or sailing on it, but not in it (don’t like getting wet). So, living on an island is perfect.
With no formal training I have tried to find my own way. Over the years, I have experimented with various styles and media – acrylic, oils, watercolour, pencil, charcoal, ink, lino prints, dry point and more recently wood. As a consequence, the result is a somewhat eclectic mix of work. This applies equally to subject matter. Although my main subjects have been landscapes and seascapes, I have tackled many subjects – portraits, caricatures, children, pets, street scenes and buildings. I suppose if I were more focused I might have achieved more, but at the end of the day it’s creating that matters. And that’s what gives me satisfaction.
