Pauline Prior-Pitt
Paintings, Writing
My paintings are an emotional response to the beaches and shores close to where I live on North Uist. Acrylic paints and pastel capture the ever changing light in this land of wind, water, and stone.
I’m happy for people to visit me in my dilapidated painting shed at the bottom of the garden, but please telephone first. The view is breathtaking.
All of my poems used to be about women, our juggling lives, coping with the domestic scene and the emotional housekeeping that seems to fall to wives and mothers. Since moving here twenty years ago, the landscape has slowly crept into my work, and recent poems capture both together.
There are now seven collections and five pamphlets. North Uist Sea Poems won the Callum Macdonald Memorial Award.
I regularly perform at poetry readings and Literature Festivals in Scotland and England. I founded “Last Thursdays” monthly poetry evenings at Taigh Chearsabhagh and I run a monthly Writing Workshop there as well.
I am a registered poet with The Scottish Book Trust, which helps to fund my readings off the island.
